ABOUT US

Scandinavian Language Centre was founded in Narva in December 2016. The aim is to offer high-quality teaching in Swedish and other Scandinavian languages. Over the years we have conducted courses in Swedish in collaboration with Narva College at Tartu University and language cafes at the youth organisation Vita Tiim in Narva. We have organized study trips and celebrations of Swedish holidays and have participated in historical festivals focusing on re-enactments of historical battles in Estonia

After a break during 2018 and 2019, we are now starting up again, beginning with online teaching in Swedish. Our aim in the future is to offer on-site teaching.

STAFF

Einar, headmaster and teacher in Swedish

I was born and raised in the university city of Uppsala, where for many years I have studied nearly everything between heaven and earth. Since I like to move around, I have also studied in Gothenburg, Stockholm, and Turku. I hold a Master of Arts with a Major in History of Ideas from Stockholm University. Other subjects that I have studied are history—for which I have written a bachelor's thesis—history of literature, physics, mathematics, comparative religion, and Swedish as a second language. In addition to my studies, I have worked as a freelance radio producer for Swedish national radio, as a tourist information officer in Norway, and as an archivist.

I discovered the joy of teaching as a visiting doctoral student in 2015, when I started teaching Swedish at the Scandinavian department at Tartu University and the university's branch in Narva. Besides Tartu I have taught Swedish at Petrozavodsk State University in Russian Karelia and in Sweden “Swedish as a second language” and “Swedish for immigrants”. My hobbies are history, travel, and hiking.

Since 2020 I am a member of the Estonian Swedish Teachers' Association, ERKOS.
